La Vergne, TN was first incorporated in1860 but then was nearly totally burned down in 1862 during the Civil War. The incorporation was rescinded in 1881 because there had been no legitimate election of officials and there weren’t enough adults remaining in town to organize a Board of Mayor and Alderman or develop a town constitution. It remained a small farming community until 1972 when it was reincorporated.
